  1. 3:14 That is not a wooden spoon, it is a bamboo spoon (made with mossoshiku bamboo from Japan or Brazil), very different from wood, and a whole lot better; it lasts a lot longer and reacts less from contamination of chemicals, or soap. Besides, it is much more sustainable, and better looking too. I am not saying this to be annoying, I am saying this because your subscribers will go out to buy a spoon, and when the dude in the store offers them a great mossoshiku bamboo spoon, they will say. -"no, no, my kitchen guru said specifically WOOD"

  2. Have you ever heard of poor people? I’d love to have 6 damascus steel knives bro but I’ll have to do with one chef knife from my mom 🥲 Never had problems cooking anything tho, but still, I’m only cooking for my friends, family and myself not for Michelin star

  3. How do you not include the most important item, a knife sharpener. Dull knives are dangerous and harder to use. Worksharp makes some really good easy to use knife sharpeners.

  4. the number of times he used "sous vide" as though it was a verb in this video…
"sous vide" is French for "under vacuum".
You don’t "sous vide something", you "cook something sous vide". the verb is still "cook"

  5. I was missing from essentials – two sizes of ladle, a slotted spoon and a straining spoon

But great video, thanks for educating the world on kitchen

  6. Thx for the good hints. What is that two prong fork thing that I see in many of your videos? Product name, link will be appreciated.

  7. I think the 2 essentials to up your game are a digital scale and digital thermometers…..both an instant read and the kind w/ the probe for a grill or oven. (I use thermaworks) Also, get pro grade food storage containers like lexan that don’t break when dropped and lids that fit and stay put, plus storage containers w/ snap on air tight lids for flours and grains to keep fresher and keep out those pesky pantry moths.

  8. Only the stuff you need … proceeds to put half a dozen knives worth $$$$ on the table.

Pots are easy either things are boiled, then you need the really big, fried, then you want them wide or small quantities, so you want a small saucepan. Maybe add a dutch oven, but that’s enough.

  9. "Tired of kitchen gadget culture" Yah okay mister four japanese knives and a single-purpose box for rising bread:P

(This comment sponsored by my blender envy)

  10. I cook with a knife, pans, and pots.

If you need anything more to make a delicious meal then you should learn some new recipes and how to cook

You can do everything with a knife

  11. Only thing about WOOD is it does wear, I stopped using when I saw wood in my sauce…just need to keep a good eye on it…and I cant be constantly worried about spoons like your channel thom😊

  12. Also…don’t use kitchen scissors for everyday house use, like everything except kitchen use 🤦🏽‍♀️

  13. Thank you! 👍👍
I get so annoyed when I see commercials for these "revolutionary gadgets" that simply fill up the junk drawer!
Lots of tools don’t make for a better cook. When I do buy essential tools, I buy the best I can afford. I have all-clad pots and skillets, a Breville combo microwave, Kitchen Aid stand mixer (40+ years old), etc. when you spend the extra $$$ for top quality tools, they will last a lifetime. Do they make me a better cook? No, but they certainly make the job a lot easier and more consistent.
There are no shortcuts in life….take it from a 67 year old’s lifelong experience.
There is no substitute for hard work, practice and patience. Just buy good kitchen tools (the basics) and keep practicing….it will pay off in the end.

  14. I know this video is 5 years old but I would add to the wire rack and say a sturdy trivet such as a cast iron one. My God I did not think I’d get so much use out of this thing when I bought it, it’s a roasting rack, icing rack, coaster, spoon rest, and a display stand all in one. I’m sure it has dozens of other applications as well.

  15. Have you ever heard of poor people? I’d love to have 6 damascus steel knives bro but I’ll have to do with one chef knife from my mom 🥲 Never had problems cooking anything tho, but still, I’m only cooking for my friends, family and myself not for Michelin star

  16. Me again. To get a better deal on the KitchenAid stand mixer, shop their refurbs. Just like new, but lot less money. I inherited mine, but got my 9 qt food processor as a refurb for $90. I have some glass storage jars, but I generally prefer the lexan and airtight plastic one, as I have a concrete floor and am a bit of a klutz. Oh….get some pro grade deli containers. Great for food storage and to gather mis en place. Love ya Joshua. Look at your vids everyday. Learning much.

  17. Could you use something else than Howl? So its possible to see what you’re posting without signing up for stuff?

  18. Knife. Cutting board. Pot. Skillet. Sheet tray. Whisk. Silicone spat. Flipper. 2 quart measure.

  19. Why are all theses links taking me to this stupid website called howl?!?? I download the app and pasted the stupid link and it’s STILL NOT WORKING

  20. For me it’s the semicircular dough cutter, if you are making any sort of dough, this guy makes the cake!

  21. Hey Josh! Great video, thanks for sharing. What brand Stock Pot was that you showed? Since this is a later video what’s a Good Quality 16 quart Stock Pot would you recommend?
