OXO Good Grips 12-Inch Stainless-Steel Tongs Review

OXO Good Grips 12-Inch Stainless-Steel Tongs Review

Review: 5/5
Perfect, Very Functional, Great Reach, But Not for Non-Stick!.

The 12″ are perfect for applications with heat with great reach and very comfortable and functional to use. For example, they are excellent for the BBQ or on surfaces that will not scratch. The long reach are great for turning hot dogs, kabobs, or toasting buns on the barbeque. Your hand really stays out of the fire. Yet the 12″ are not so big so that they still feel like an extension of your arm and you feel fully in control. I’ve never had a problem with things sticking to these, yet they are not silicone or non-stick. Every kitchen needs a stock of the right utensils for the right purpose. These are perfect as the metal-ended variation.

But these are not suitable for non-stick frying pans or other surfaces that can scratch. They are not the only tongs you need. Every kitchen needs a variety of tools to suit the particular application. These are excellent for applications that involve high heat and are not affected by scratching and don’t need a soft touch. Oxo has other tongs that are suited to other applications. I highly recommend the OXO Good Grips 12-Inch Locking Tongs with Nylon Heads for non-stick surfaces like frying pans. I highly recommend the OXO Good Grips Silicone Flexible Tongs when you need a softer touch and fine control or more of a spatula replacement.

  1. Those non stick tongs look interesting. I have dealt with battered foods sticking to the tongs when I am trying to cook. The clean up is particularly challenging.

  2. I believe I have a newer version of this OXO tong and i think they went and cheapened the product. The metal on yours looks wider then mine. The worst part is that since the metal handle is less wide the width of rubber is now narrower and since the rubber inserts into cut outs in the metal handle both the rubbers on my tongs are broken. The rubber breaks from the continuous use of pressing and clamping down on the tongs. Now, I have a tong whereby the "flesh" of my thumb or index finger gets pushed into the metal cut outs of the handle with the rubber pieces gone. Also, the rivet rusts and now there is some resistance to it springing back to the open position. So be sure to keep that part dry. I’m not happy about this purchase!
